Each year, Music Illawarra awards the "Best Junior Performer" trophy to a performer 12 years and under. The trophy is not necessarily awarded to the performer with the highest marks. We look for a young performer who shows potential, musicality, and a true passion for music.

Like the previous prize, Music Illawarra also awards the "Best Senior Performer" trophy to a performer 13 years and over. As with the Junior trophy, we look for a young performer who shows potential, musicality, professionalism, correct stage presentation, and above all, a true passion for music.

ACO Prize for the Most Promising String Player (Junior or Senior)

Generously donated to the String Section of the 2011 Music Illawarra Performers' Competition are 2 tickets to a Sunday afternoon subscription concert with the Australian Chamber Orchestra (artistic Director Richard Tognetti) in the Sydney Opera House.
This prize is handed out to the most promising string player (junior or senior) of the day. This is not necessarily the most skilled student, but one who shows exceptional performance quality, performance presentation, musicality, technical control over his/her instrument, and especially, future potential.
We are very grateful to Mrs. Irene Tognetti, Mr. Richard Tognetti and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and are delighted to announce that the winner of the ACO Prize 2011 is Georgia Cartlidge.

ACO Encouragement Prizes

As well as the concert tickets mentioned above, the ACO has kindly donated two CDs. These are offered as encouragement prizes to a Junior or Senior Violinist, as well as a Junior or Senior Violist/Cellist.

Song Company Prize

The Song Company (artistic director Roland Peelman), Australia's leading vocal ensemble, has generously offered us 7 double passes to their next concert "Sweet Dreams" on December 5th in the Wollongong Town Hall. These prizes are handed out to the most promising performers on piano, flute, reed instruments, classical guitar and viola/cello, as well as two double passes for the most polished duet.
In "Sweet Dreams", the Song Company will transport you into a magical world of dreams, fairy tales and imagination. The Song Company pairs with acclaimed shadow puppeteer Stephen Mushin to create a visually spectacular theatre performance set to an enchanting mix of songs from around the world, from Maori to Mandarin and from English to Russian. Mushin creates a sensory experience to delight children and the child within us all. Ideal for ages 9 to adult!
